The Bye Bye Man is a horror movie that was produced by STX Entertainment and was released on January 13, 2017. The film originally got an R rating but was cut by the distributor for the theatrical release in order to get a PG-13 rating. An unrated version was later released on streaming and home video.

  • The scene that shows Larry walking through the door and shooting Jane was cut.
  • The scene that shows a close up on Larry after he shoots Jane as he looks around was cut.
  • The scene that shows Larry shooting Rick was cut.
  • The scene that shows Larry walking past Jane's dead corpse was cut.
  • The scene that shows John calling for Elliot as he is urinating was cut.
  • The scene where John, Elliot and Sasha are talking about the shower curtain that shows a fisherman having oral sex with a fish was cut.
  • The scene that shows Larry shooting his neighbor was modified for the Theatrical release. In the Theatrical release they used a different camera angle as a result you don't see any blood.
  • The scene that shows Larry shooting the neighbor's daughter was modified for the Theatrical release. In the Theatrical release there is a big flash when he shows making it harder to see Larry and his gun and you no longer see any blood splatters when the bullet hits the daughter.
  • The scene that shows Larry reloading his gun after the neighbor's daughter collapses onto the ground.
  • The scene that shows Larry trying to kill himself with his gun was shortened.
  • The scene that shows Larry stepping over the dead neighbor's daughter was modified for the Theatrical release. In the Theatrical release there is no blood on the wall.
  • The scene that shows the Bye Bye Man standing next to the dead neighbor was modified for the Theatrical release. In the Theatrical release the bullet wound on her was removed.
  • The scene that shows Larry drinking the poison was cut.
  • The scene that shows Larry coughing up blood after drinking the poison was cut.
  • The scene that shows John and Sasha having sex was shortened and made less explicit for the Theatrical release. In the Theatrical release it shows a close up of Sasha and John while in the unrated version you see a zoomed out version and see them having sex.
  • The scene that shows Mrs. Redmon burning alive was cut.
  • The scene that shows a dead woman missing her head next the the librarian and Elliot was cut.
  • The scene that shows John stabbing Sasha was changed to him missing every time he tried to stab her.
  • The scene that shows a close up of Sasha's bloody face as she cries out was cut.
  • The scene that shows John getting shot was modified for the Theatrical release. In the Theatrical release the blood was digitally removed.
  • The scene that shows a close up on Sasha's dead corpse was cut.
  • The scene that shows Elliot shooting himself was modified for the Theatrical release. In the Theatrical release the blood was digitally removed.
