Spiral (aka Spiral: From the Book of Saw) is a 2021 American horror film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. It was released in theaters in the United States on May 14, 2021 after being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the ninth installment in the Saw film series. One particularly graphic scene resulting in an NC-17 rating multiple times was cut from the theatrical release.

  • According to director Darren Lynn Bousman, a trap containing someone getting their face cut off had to be cut from the film in order for it to receive an R rating from the MPA; previous attempts resulted in a rating of NC-17. Screen Rant said that the film received an NC-17 rating eleven times before an R-rated cut was approved.[1]
