Red Sparrow is an American spy thriller film that was directed by Francis Lawrence and released on March 2, 2018 by 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios). The film was censored to get a lower age rating (BBFC 15 rather than 18) in the UK and Ireland. To release in India with an A certificate the film had to be censored.
UK and Ireland censorship
- The contentious scene where Ustinov gets strangled was modified for the UK release. In the UK theatrical version, there is only a brief shot of him where his hands are covering his throat. The uncensored version shows the wire graphically cutting into Ustinov's throat for much longer.
- Ustinov collapses with an alternate shot in the UK version. The second close-up of Dominika is digitally bloodless as with the first. This resulted in a continuity error where there is blood on her chest when putting on clothes.
Total of 13 seconds of footage cut.
- Violence, sexual content, and language were all toned down. Most footage containing frontal and back nudity was cut. Killings were reduced by about half. Liquor labels were blurred. An anti-smoking disclaimer was displayed.
Where to find it uncensored
