Off the Air

Off the Air is a late-night anthology show created by Dave Hughes for Adult Swim. It premiered on January 1, 2011 and is still ongoing. Some episodes had the clips within them censored for strong language, nudity, and copyrighted content.

USA censorship

Season 1

• Animals
  1. The closing credits had the name of one of the shorts edited; "Zodiac Shit" was changed to "Zodiac Animals".
  2. In later airings and the Adult Swim website upload, the whole episode is significantly darkened to reduce the chance of seizures.

• Food
  1. The scene that shows a man taking a chunk off of a rubix cube was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The logo on the rubix cube was blurred out.
  2. The scene that shows a man from the "We Want Your Soul" video stripping naked and running into the ocean was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A crystallized effect was put over his bare bottom.
  3. The scene that shows footage of the "Heinz Automato" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Heinz label on the ketchup bottle was blurred out, along with the motivational sign in the background also having its' text blurred out. (The text that was blurred out read "Potential. Not everyone gets to be an astronaut when they grow up.")
  4. The closing credits had the name of one of the shorts edited; "Heinz Automato" was changed to "Automato".

• Dance
  1. The scene that Shows Tank9 Dancing in a shopping mall was modified. The names of business, their respective logos, various packaging, license plates, and faces outside of Tank9's were blurred out.

• Body
  1. The scene that shows a clip of "Going to the store" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The phone number in the HELP WANTED sign in the background was blurred out.
  2. The scene that shows a clip of "Going to the store" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The license plates on the cars in the parking lot was blurred out.
  3. The scene that shows a clip of Chriddof's "Sossidge Arms" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The music used in the original clip was replaced with stock music.

Season 2

• Falling
  1. The scene that shows a green man falling down a cliff was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A speedo was digitally inserted over the green man's genitals.

• Color
  1. The scene that shows a woman firing a shotgun at a river was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The music used in the original clip was replaced with stock music.
  2. Every scene from the "Yung Jake" video had the "Bulls" part of his basketball shirt pixelated.
  3. The scene that shows Yung Jake moving left and right to reveal a painting, which then morphs into a dump.fm page scrolling down was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The left side of the screen had a ripple effect applied to it, as a result you can no longer clearly see said images; instead only vague shapes that resemble the image.
  4. The scene that shows the dump.fm page scrolling down further to gifs of the fresh prince of Bel-air was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Two extra datamoshes were added to obscure the images.
  5. The scene that shows Yung Jake putting an image of Justin Bieber onto his face via datamosh was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The image he used to put on his face was changed from an actual Justin Bieber video to a stock photo of a Bieber-ish teen.
  6. The scene that shows Yung Jake at his computer was replaced with a different footage from later in the music video, due to the fact that the internet explorer logo was clearly visible in the background.
  7. Said footage from later in the music video also had the datamosh into a first person shooter cut out for copyright reasons.
  8. The scene where Yung Jake sings "I don't give a fuck though, I don't give a shit" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Fuck" and "Shit" are bleeped out with a sound effect.
  9. The scene that shows Yung Jake putting an image of a woman on his hand and moving it was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The NBA logo on his jersey was pixelated.
  10. The scene that shows Yung Jake putting an image of a woman on his hand and moving it via datamosh was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Image of the woman was changed to a stock photo.
  11. The scene that shows Yung Jake putting tattoos on himself via datamosh was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The image of the gangsters in the background were blurred out.
  12. The scene that shows Yung Jake increasing the video quality of YouTube (with the video being a stock photo of a ladybug on a clover) was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The left side of the stock photo had a different ladybug on a clover digitally inserted over the video.
  13. The scene that shows Yung Jake sipping on a cup with two women was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The clip was replaced with a similar looking clip later in the video due to the copyright-unfriendly footage in the background.
  14. Said footage from later in the music video also had the logo on the cup pixelated, along with the faces of the women hanging around Yung Jake having a warped effect applied to them.
  15. The scene that shows a charmander with a hat photo-shopped on was replaced with a clip from later in the video.
  16. The scene where Yung Jake sings "I'm on my web, shit ya heard me" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Shit" was bleeped out with a sound effect.

• Nightmares
  1. The scene that shows a nude woman being projected onto a man driving from the "Plaster Casts of Everything" video was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The woman's breasts are pixelated.

• Light
  1. The shot of the smog station in the "Light" short was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The phone number on a sign was blurred.
  2. The shot of the car dealership in the "Light" short was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The sign reading "BUERGE, CHRYSLER, JEEP" was blurred out.
  3. The shot of the mattress store bleeding lights was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The neon sign reading "Beautyrest" was blurred.
  4. The shot of the lighting store bleeding lights was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The sign reading "IMPERIAL CRYSTAL LIGHTING" was blurred out.

Some side trivia: Imperial Crystal Lighting went out of business.

Season 3

• Nature
  1. The scene that shows the rabbit defecating on the bear's head and him wiping it off his face was cut.
• Robots
  1. The scene that shows a clip of KOKOFREAKBEAN'S "God Knox" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The image of some celebrity had an image of a snow monkey superimposed over their face, as a result you could no longer recognize that it was them.
  2. The scene that shows two chatbots on TVs talking to each other was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Dell and Samsung logos on the TVs were digitally removed.
  3. The scene that shows two chatbots on TVs talking to each other was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The book that one of the TV's was standing on had the writer's name and the logo of the book label digitally removed. The text was also changed from "Artificial intelligence: A modern approach" to "Artelligence: A Mooch"
• Worship
  1. The scene that shows a clip of "Jesus Pwned U" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Replacement music is used.
  2. The scene that shows a kid hitting a ball with a tennis racket was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The logo on the tennis racket is blurred.
  3. The scene that shows the monument of an arch with a coca-cola machine underneath it was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Bloom was added to the coca-cola machine to obscure the coca-cola logo.
  4. The scene that shows the monument of an arch with a coca-cola machine underneath it being flooded at night was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The coca-cola machine's logo is pixelated.

Season 4

• Hair
  1. The scene that shows Matthew Silver talking to a camera was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A blurry glow effect was added around Matthew's head; partially to obscure the faces of people in the background, and partially just for effect.
• Sports
  1. The scene that shows a wake-boarder diving into a bog was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Nike logos on his shoes and pants were pixelated.
• Transportation
  1. The scene that shows two people flopping around on the sidewalk was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The license plate on a car to the side was covered up with a fake one reading "SPC GHST".
  2. The scene that shows a figure being sawed in half with a gear was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Ramones logo was digitally removed from his shirt.

Season 5

• Liquid
  1. The scene that shows the wool man sticking his head in the shopping cart was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The store sign reading "Fine Wine & Good Spirits: Premium Collection" was blurred out.
  2. The scene that shows the wool man absorbed in the shopping cart was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Family Dollar logo in the background was blurred out.
  3. The scene that shows kayakers sliding down the drainage ditch cart was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. All the decals on the kayak, helmet and paddles were blurred out.
  4. The scene where one of the kayakers says "That was fucking fast!" was cut out and replaced with audio from later in the clip.
• Conflict
  1. The scene that shows three people fighting in a bar was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Budweiser logo on a light over a pool table was blurred.
  2. The scene that includes the lyrics "Treat these N*ggas like my hoes and put my dick all in they mouth" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "N*gga" and "Dick" are bleeped out with gunshot sound effects.
  3. The scene where the Prokaryote says "I just want to walk around I can't even bend my fucking-" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The word "fucking" was muted.
  4. The scene where somebody looks up "how to be a real metal-head" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The google logo was digitally removed from the screen.
  5. In the credits the clip "31 Ways To Say Fuck Off" is credited as "31 Ways To Say F#@k Off".
  6. The scene where Adam and Eve are shown giving the middle finger was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Eve's nipples were digitally removed from her breasts. (The middle fingers were left uncensored.)
• NEWNOW
  1. The scene that shows two people in ghillie suits one wheel-ing through a shopping mall was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A person's face in the background and the sign on a store were pixelated.

Season 5

• Shapes
  1. The scene that shows a Zelda cartridge being put inside an NES was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The label on the cartridge is blurred.
  2. The scene that shows a claymation recreation of the Legend of Zelda title screen was cut. A different shot of Radkey running on the earth was extended to make up for lost time.
  3. The scene that shows the three guys getting sucked into the television was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The transformers logo on a poster on the wall was blurred.
• Clowns
  1. The scene that shows a man standing next to a bike was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A wavy effect is added over the man's face. Interestingly enough, the wavy effect doesn't go with the datamosh, meaning it was most likely a last minute change.
• Work
  1. The scene that shows a man signalling a crane was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The labels on the cranes (Komatsu, Hitachi) were blurred out.
  2. The scene that includes the lyrics "Fuck the dime, I keep the mic in my hand cuz fuck them no understand." was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Both instances of "Fuck" are bleeped with a laugh sampled from earlier in the clip.
  3. The scene that includes the lyrics "Collateral damage, fuck you're expendable" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Fuck" is bleeped with a laugh sampled from earlier in the clip.
  4. The scene that includes the lyrics "Fuck that, collect capital, it stacks into stupid dough" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Fuck" is bleeped with a laugh sampled from earlier in the clip.
  5. The scene that shows distorted, naked babies lying on assembly lines was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The entire lower half of the screen was slightly blurred in order to obscure the genitals of the babies. Distorted crying and moaning sounds are also dubbed in to make up for the lost visual information.
  6. The scene that shows a pizza delivery man sitting in his car was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Honda logo on the steering wheel is blurred out.
  7. The scene that shows a pizza delivery man looking at a delivery ticket was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The information on the ticket was blurred out.

  1. The scene that shows a clip of "Girls night out" by Geoffery Lillemon was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The woman's breasts are covered up with stock photos of band-aids.
  2. The scene that shows one of the girls wiggling her tongue between two fingers was cut.

  1. The scene that shows a sign reading "KFC next exit" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The sign has a smear effect inserted over it.
  2. The scene that shows a sign reading "Marlboro" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The sign has a smear effect inserted over it.

  1. The scene that shows a sailor with a mermaid tattoo was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The mermaid's nipples were blurred out.
• Paradise
  1. The scene that pans across some of Merango's clones was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Green foliage was edited over one of the topless Merango clone's nipples.

Season 8

• Health
  1. The scene that shows a clip from Buttered Side Down's "Getting fit" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The music used in the original clip was replaced with stock music.
  2. The scene that shows the guy running along the highway and down a road was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The license plates were blurred.
• Love
  1. The scene that shows Kittykat96 scrolling down her comments page was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. All the frames that show somebody asking her to call them (with a visible, real phone number) were removed.
  2. The scene that shows Kittykat96 clicking on her webcam was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Some of the labels on the desktop such as Runescape, Limewire, & Sony Vegas were digitally removed. The icons were kept in.
  3. The scene that shows Kittykat96 touching the egodeath.mov video was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The Windows blue screen of death that flashes up was cut out.
  4. The scene that shows Daniel Koren sitting on a park bench was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The title "Crazy Shit" was heavily stamp-tooled out.
  5. The scene that shows rain dripping down on concrete was replaced with stock footage of blue droplets hitting water.
  6. The scene that shows a black and white diver jumping into a pool was replaced with stock footage of some guy doing a flip into the ocean.
  7. The scene that shows a woman contorting (A scene from the 1944 movie "Broadway Rhythm") was replaced with stock footage of a guy dropping his cell phone.

  10. The scene that shows a forest fire was replaced with easier to obtain footage of a man spinning wire wool on fire.

  12. The closing credits had the name of one of the shorts slightly edited; "Crazy Shit" was credited as "Crazy Sh!t".

  1. The scene that shows a woman typing on her phone was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The URL "Friendsite.fun" was pixelated out.
• Winter
  1. The scene where the Death Grips song "Bubbles buried in this jungle" plays was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The lyrics "Fuck Weak" were written out as simply "Weak" in the Closed Captioning. The audio itself wasn't censored, likely due to it being near indecipherable without subtitles.

Season 9

• Fashion
  1. The scene that shows a fashion designer sitting at his computer was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The URL "Plerk.cum" was changed to "Plerk.cv"
  2. The scene that shows a green man carrying out his credit card was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The VISA logo in the corner of the card was digitally removed.
• Trash
  1. The scene that shows music paper coming out of an odd bird box was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A URL printed on the music paper was blurred out.
  2. The scene where Bambi says "Go Away, Jimmy! Fuck off, Jimmy!" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Fuck" was bleeped out.
  3. The scene that shows a jellyfish made out of trash was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The McDonald's logo printed on the cup was changed to a generic red box with a yellow stripe through it. The word "Mcflurry" was also changed to read "Swirly".
• Patterns
  1. The scene that shows a man drawing on a piece of paper was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The label on the Wite-out bottle and the sharpie pens were pixelated.
  2. On TV airings and the HBO MAX upload, the episode is preceded with a landscape epilepsy disclaimer reading "This video may potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised."

Season 10

• Coping
  1. The scene that shows a news report on the TV about Covid-19 was modified for the Adult Swim version. The image on the TV had a different, fake news report digitally inserted over it. (That way, instead of being from an actual news broadcast, it was a mock-up.)
  2. The scene that shows two puppets driving a car was modified for the Adult Swim version. The License plate on the car was blurred out.
  3. The scene where the woman hits her head on the fish tank was modified for the Adult Swim version. A drink banner in the background was covered up with 2 dark green rectangles.
  4. The scene where the woman hits her head on a pole was modified for the Adult Swim version. A pink sign in the background advertising candy was covered up with a deep maroon rectangle (this scene was uncensored in advertisements for the episode).
  5. The scene where Lars Anderson aims the bow at the viewer was modified for the Adult Swim version. The shot is zoomed in slightly to hide the FITA tournament logo in the top left corner of the screen.
  6. The scene where Lars Anderson jumps over a barrier to shoot a target behind it was modified for the Adult Swim version. The Virklund Sport AS logo on the barrier was blurred out.

  1. The scene that shows the phone number for a dance infomercial on the tv was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Two of the numbers were replaced with a star and a circle, respectively.
  2. The scene where one of the lizards says "Fuck, I just touched my nose!" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Fuck" was partially muted.
  3. The scene that shows a CGI dog in a hazmat suit tip-toeing across a sidewalk was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The sign in the background reading "Woodhull Medical Center" was heavily blurred out.
  4. The scene that shows a person in fetish gear at a sex club was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The person's strap-on is pixelated.

  1. The scene that shows two fisherman fishing an alien baby out of a lake was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A tan blur was digitally added over the baby's genitals.
  2. The scene that shows a man accidentally cutting his penis off in a Rube Goldberg machine was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. A much stronger blur effect was added over the penis & surrounding blood. (Before, it was only a small amount of pixelation).

Season 11

• Family
  1. The scenes where Dave Biddle narrates and sings to the audience in an indoor water park was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. People's faces in the background and logos on the beach towels were blurred out
  2. The scene where the King Gizzard song "2.02 Killer Year" plays was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The lyrics "Not torn between just and fucked up" was written out as "Not torn between just and [bleep] up" in the closed captioning. The audio itself wasn't censored, likely due to it being near indecipherable without subtitles.
  3. The scene where Kerwin Frost says "God, I'm super fucking hot" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Fuck" was bleeped.
  4. The scene where Kerwin Frost says "Where's my fucking..." was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Fucking" was bleeped.
  5. The scene where Kerwin Frost says "Holy Shit" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. "Shit" was bleeped.
  6. The scene where Kerwin Frost says "That's so fucking hot. I'm so fuckin' hot." was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. Both instances of "fuck" were bleeped.

  1. The scene that shows a penis drawn on the door has the penis pixelated out.

  3. The scene that shows a mirror on the wall has the entire reflective part of the mirror pixelated, along with a sticker reading "Fuck the Police". The reflective part is censored due to illicit material being seen in the reflection.
  4. The scene that shows golden dildos on the mantle of the fireplace has all the dildos pixelated.
  5. The scene that shows a man wearing a helmet with dildos on it has the dildos lightly pixelated.
  6. The scene that shows a tattoo of a topless woman has her breasts pixelated.
  7. The scene that shows graffiti of the words "Homo Erectus" next to a penis has the penis and the word "Homo" pixelated out.

  4. The scene that shows a vacation photo of a woman in an office had the photo blurred out.
  5. The scene where a teenage girl says "When you sniff it, you get like really fucking sick visuals and stuff" was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The word "Fuck" was bleeped out.

• Music
  1. The scene that shows a person using a fan as an instrument was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The fan's logo and the boxes on the shelf next to her were blurred out.

• Farts
  1. The scene that shows a person's face being forcibly farted on was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. The person's anus and butt crack were pixelated out (The person's butt crack when seen from the side is left in).
