God of War III is an American hack-and-slash video game that was developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The video game was released on March 16, 2010. Due to Japanese laws regarding violence and nudity in video games, a number of scenes had to be censored for the release in Japan. As a result violence was toned down and nudity was removed.

Censorship[]

Japanese censorship[]

  • In the uncensored version, Poseidon's Princess and Aphrodite are topless. In the Japanese version, their dresses were digitally extended. As a result, you can no longer see their breasts.
  • In the scene where Kratos repeatedly hits Hercules' face, bloodshed was digitally removed.
  • The scenes that show one of Kratos's enemies' bones sticking out of his severed leg were modified for the Japanese release. In the Japanese version the bones were digitally removed.

Saudi Arabia censorship[]

  • God of War 3 was among 47 games that were banned in Saudi Arabia due to unspecified violent content after a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl had allegedly committed suicide after participating in an online "Blue Whale" challenge.[1][2]

United Arab Emirates censorship[]

  • The game was banned due to its title containing the word "God".

Where to find it uncensored[]

The American and European versions are completely uncensored.
