The Disinformation Governance Board is a board set up within the Department of Homeland Security, a branch of the United States government. The board was going to be headed by Nina Jankowicz but was paused.
It was established on April 26, 2022 during the presidency of Joseph R. Biden, probably in response to Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter. Musk's purchase of Twitter has angered leftists on Twitter, and he even received death threats.
According to Politico, the Disinformation Governance Board was intended to "coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security, focused specifically on irregular migration and Russia."[1]
The creation of the board has received substantial bipartisan criticism, especially from conservatives, believing it will stifle free speech protections granted by the First Amendment.
