Censorship

Counter-Strike is a first person shooter that was developed by Valve and released by Sierra Studios on November 9, 2000. Though the violence was toned down for its release in Germany, it was still "indexed", meaning that the game couldn't be sold to people below 16 or 18 (depending on version) due to its "harmful" material. The censorship requirements were in place until January 2018.[1] The game was banned in Brazil in 2008 though the ban was eventually lifted there too.

Censorship[]

Brazilian censorship[]

  • The game was banned in 2008 due to the amount of violence in the game. The ban was later lifted allowing the game to be released in Brazil.

German censorship[]

(USK 18 version)

  • Blood splatters were removed.
  • Blood on the walls was removed.

(USK 16 version)

  • Blood splatters were removed.
  • Blood on the walls was recolored yellow.
  • Corpses are no longer dead instead the "dead person" sits down and shakes his head.
  • The amount of hostage variety was reduced so now all hostages use the same character model.
  • You can no longer kill hostages.

Where to find it uncensored[]

Every other country had it completely uncensored. German censorship restrictions were also lifted in January 2018.[1]
