Contra is a Japanese action platforming game that was developed and published by Konami. The video game was released on February 9, 1988. The game was censored in Europe due to German laws regarding violence in video games. As a result all human characters became robots in the European (PAL) version.

In PAL regions, every human character was changed to a robot/cyborg, and the game had its name changed to to Probotector.
