Breath of Fire is a JRPG that was developed by Capcom, and published by Capcom in Japan and Square Soft in North America. The video game was first released in Japan for the Super Famicom (SNES) on April 3, 1993. Due to Nintendo's policies at the time, the game had to be censored for its international release.

  • The message scene was censored:
    • The line "Who are you?! I HATE men! Stay away from me! Ptooie!" was changed to "The woman with you… Let me speak to her."
    • The line "Oh! Oh! What a beauty you are!" was cut.
    • The line "Please, let me give your shoulders a rub-rub!" was changed to "Healer, won’t you please fix my aching back?"
    • The line "I’ll give you Zeni if you’ll let me rub them!" was cut.
    • The line "Oh… Oh…. Oh!" was changed to "Pat-a-pat-a-pat-pat".
    • The line "Whew……" was changed to "Pat-a-pat-a-pat-pat".
    • The line "Whew, that was great. Thanks." was changed to "I feel years younger! Thanks!"
    • The line This is the secret to my youth." was cut.
  • Karn's skin color was changed from grey to a whitish skin tone, and his curly hair was changed to hair that was straighter and his lips are less pronounced.
