Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an American superhero movie that is part of the DC Extended Universe that was released by WB on March 25, 2016. The theatrical release of the movie was censored in order to shorten the runtime and get a PG-13 rating. In order to get the U/A rating in India the film had to be receive additional cuts. When the movie was aired on ORF in Austria, additional scenes were also removed due to their violent content. (Note: the theatrical version and not the director's cut.)

Theatrical Cut[]

Violence was toned down in order to obtain lower ratings:

  • The scene that shows KGBeast and his men shooting the General's soldiers was modified for the theatrical release. In the theatrical version the blood sprays were removed or just recolored gray, some blood sprays that are in the theatrical release are larger in the Ultimate Edition.
  • The scene that shows KGBeast flipping off the drone was cut.
  • The scene that shows a pile of charred bodies was cut.
  • The scene that shows the beaten-up human trafficker was modified for the theatrical release. In the theatrical version the blood was darkened and the camera soon zooms in on the guys face making it so you don't see as much blood.
  • The scene that shows a close up on a soldier getting shot was cut.
  • The scene that shows Batman's soldiers getting shot was modified for the theatrical release. In the theatrical version the blood was removed.
  • The scene that shows Batman shooting a soldier and then hitting the soldier in the abdomen was modified for the theatrical release. In the theatrical version Batman simply kicks the soldier.
  • The scene that shows Superman using his laser ray to kill one of Batman's soldiers was modified for the theatrical release. In the theatrical version the soldier's screams were muted and the scene was shortened.
  • The scene that shows Batman punching Superman was shortened.
  • The scene that shows Superman hitting the ground and in pain was shortened.
  • The scene that shows Batman tossing a Box at a soldier was modified for the theatrical release. In the theatrical version the blood stain that is on the wall after was removed.
  • The scene that shows Batman punching the soldiers shortened.
  • The scene that shows Batman punching a soldier's face was cut.
  • The scene that shows Batman on top of a soldier and punching the guy three times it was changed to him only punching the soldier two times for the theatrical version.
  • The scene that shows Batman finishing the guy that he had knifed earlier was cut.
  • The scene that shows Doomsday impaling Superman was modified for the theatrical release. In the theatrical version the scene was shortened and the camera zooms in on Superman's face.

  • A scene of a fleeting nude figure was cut.

  • The scene that shows the soldiers opening fire on the African terrorists was cut.
  • The scene that shows Superman's soldiers attempting to capture Batman as he try's to resist them was shortened. As a result you can no longer see Batman kneeing on of them in the face.
  • The scene that shows Batman's bat-hook hitting one of Lex's henchmen's shoulders was cut.
  • The scene that shows Batman slamming one of Lex's henchmen onto the floor was cut.
  • The scene that shows Batman breaking one of Lex's henchmen's shoulders was cut.

Where to find it uncensored[]

The "Ultimate Edition" of the film is uncensored and was assigned an R rating. This uncensored version can be found on DVD and Blu-ray home videos and streaming sites.
